Photo-Manipulation Guide 1 by Serkenil Photo-Manipulation Guide 1 by Serkenil

Heya! :aww:

Part 1 of my Photo-Manipulation Guides. This one is about Selections.

The earlier guides are going to mainly focus on Photoshop beginners and later ones are going to tackle some more advanced issues.

I am a Windows user so this was made in regards to that. If you are a mac user the differences are almost unnoticeable. Basically, replace the Ctrl key for the Command one :D

I really hope these guides help some people. And if you have any questions or suggestions, please don't be afraid to ask!

P.S. For a more in-depth look into the pen tool check out ^kuschelirmel's tutorial on her stock account here: [link]

Nice tutorial. Even for anyone who's used Photoshop for a while, a quick refresher in the basics is always a good idea.

Thank you! There are so many ways to achieve something in PS.
I find myself drawn in by the creative process, that I often forget various tools.
So, I think it's nice to have an overview around. :D

You're welcome. I think there are about as many things you can do with Photoshop as there are grains of sand on a beach. ;-)

That's mainly why I never got around to do anything yet in Photoshop. which is sad, when I see all these wonderful things deviants come up with...

You should not feel disheartened! Taking small steps and keeping things simple is key to creating something! There is an abundance of tutorials on DA, from basic to more advance. Just picking one and doing something, will help you take a step further. I know it seems daunting at first, but don't lose heart! The great think about art is that you can choose where to start and end! :aww:

This is a great overview!

only one thing I'd like to add, which could make your life easier: the path tool, you don't need to click-click-click to get a good selection, you can click-and-drag (with the mouse button still pressed, drag along a tangent of what you want to select) and it'll give you little handles that make your path curve (you can find a pen tutorial on my stock account where this is explained in more detail see [link] ). Once you get used to this method, it's very accurate and very fast, too!

Thanks for mentioning that Jasmin! :aww:
I wanted to do a whole series of photo-manipulation tutorials and guides, just never got down to doing it :P
I was thinking of including it in a more advance tutorial. Since you're mentioning it, could I add the link to your tutorial in the description?

I, too, had to search around a lot when I got started,
so I am hoping my guides will help beginners out! :D
